The Zip-Up house is an unbuilt proposal designed by Richard and Su Rogers, circa 1967, for a DuPont “The House of Today” competition.
The original concept imagines prefabricated modules created from materials used for insulated shipping applications. These units would be lightweight, and cost effective to construct, install, modify, and move. The individual units are simply “zipped” together on site using neoprene “zips”. Instead of a traditional foundation, adjustable footings are used which allows the structure to be placed anywhere, quickly, regardless of terrain.
In our interpretation of this classic design proposal, we have furnished our Zip-Up as the Saunter HQ. Otherwise, we remain true to the original concept by demonstrating the flexibility that the concept offers. We believe that the technological advancements made since the 60's means previously discarded concepts such as this one have a newfound viability.
